Richt decision understandable but troubling

It was December 2000, and I was sitting in the office of Mark Richt, who was the offensive coordinator at Florida State.

I was there to write about Florida State’s upcoming game with Oklahoma for the BCS national championship. I also knew that later in the day, Georgia president Michael Adams and athletic director Vince Dooley would arrive in Tallahassee to talk to Richt about becoming the Bulldogs’ next coach. Richt was surprised that I knew.

When I had finished with my questions about his upcoming game, Richt asked me to close my notebook and turn off my recorder.
