The Georgia Bulldogs baseball team kicks off the 2024 campaign this weekend with a three-game series at Foley Field against UNC Asheville. This will be the first game for the Diamond Dogs new head coach Wes Johnson after moving on from Scott Stricklin last May. Johnson was previously the LSU pitching coach where he won the 2023 College World Series, and before that was the pitching coach for the Minnesota Twins.
The Bulldogs 2023 season was underwhelming, finishing with a record of 29-27 (11-19 SEC) and placing sixth in the SEC East. Coach Johnson will have the opportunity to use his experiences coaching in important games to get the program back into the College World Series for the first time since 2008, and maybe even their first national title since 1990.
