Five defenders at January’s Senior Bowl faced Georgia last season, and GN asked them to break down Georgia quarterback Jacob Eason, who was the Bulldogs’ starter as a true freshman last season.
Eason was 7-5 as a starter, demonstrating the inconsistency most true freshman quarterbacks display. The consensus five-star recruit wasn’t helped by a rough first year for offensive coordinator Jim Chaney, several drops from his receivers and a leaky offensive line.
Eason threw for 2,430 yards, third-most in SEC history by a true freshman; Alabama’s Jalen Hurts set the record with 2,780 yards last season, and Quincy Carter had held the record by throwing for 2,488 yards in 1998.
