New DB Maurice Smith practices with Georgia for first time

ATHENS, Ga. – Less than 24 hours after the SEC granted him a conditional waiver to transfer to Georgia, former Alabama defensive back Maurice Smith worked out with the Bulldogs on Saturday.

Wearing a No. 2 jersey, helmet and shorts, Smith practiced with the team ahead of the team’s scrimmage at Sanford Stadium. He will likely have to go through an acclimation period before he can fully take part in practice.

The former Crimson Tide defensive back reportedly boarded a plane for Georgia almost immediately after the SEC made their decision. Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart said in a statement Friday night that he was ready to have Smith on his team.
