LOS ANGELES, Calif.— Some Georgia fans got their wish in 2017 when in-state quarterback Jake Fromm became the starting quarterback. His road to the Rose Bowl began due to an unfortunate injury to then-starter Jacob Eason against Appalachian State in the season-opener.
ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit said on Sunday the change worked out best for the Bulldogs.
“I think it’s a little bit of a blessing in disguise,” Herbstreit said. “You hate to see guys get hurt, but it opened the door for Jake Fromm to step in. I think he’s a young Baker Mayfield.”
Fromm has gone on to start in 12 games this season for UGA, leading the team to a 12-1 record, an SEC Championship, and a chance to win the College Football Playoff.
