Cavan, who turns 69 next month, is a former Georgia quarterback (1968-70) and assistant (1978-85). Cavan was the recruiter of record on Herschel Walker, and thus forever will be a revered figure at the school.
Cavan’s title is “assistant to the head coach” and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that he is one of about 40 people in a support role. Smart told the newspaper that number likely will grow.
