Georgia coach Kirby Smart is impressed with what he’s seen from the Appalachian State defense.
Smart said Wednesday on the SEC coaches teleconference that the Mountaineers’ defense was “the fastest defense I’ve seen on tape.”
“That goes for every position,” Smart said. “We had that tape last year. We played Tennessee. I’m sure we factored that, but that was one of the tapes that we studied. They do a tremendous job defensively. I’m talking about flying to the ball, pursuit, incredible leverage.”

Last season, Appalachian State’s defense finished 17th nationally and nearly helped the Mountaineers upset then-No.
