If you’re a Georgia football fan, you knew this was eventually coming. The animal rights group PETA has called for the University of Georgia to retire their live English Bulldog mascot, Uga, stating that he “looks miserable”, per Atlanta’s WSB TV.
PETA has also recently called for the retirement of live mascots at Texas A&M (Reveille the Collie), Mississippi State (Bully the Bulldog), Colorado (Ralphie the Buffalo), and even Oklahoma’s Sooner Schooner, which is pulled by a team of live horses.
While I can’t speak for the treatment of mascots at other schools (and I’m sure they are treated with great care, respect and love) anyone who has been around the University of Georgia knows the absolute pampering and careful treatment given to Uga.
