The news that Greyson Lambert had won the Georgia starting quarterback job showed up on Buddy Geis’ iPhone in Jacksonville, Fla., on Monday night. Geis quickly sent off a message offering congratulations and the two traded texts.
The former NFL and college assistant coach was emotionally invested in the decision that Bulldogs coach Mark Richt and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer made.
Before Lambert’s junior season at Wayne County High in Jesup, his father Drexel phoned Geis knowing he had worked with quarterbacks Troy Aikman and Jim Harbaugh.
