ATHENS,Ga. — Georgia is one of two schools with two semifinalists for the Butkus Award, which is given annually to the nation’s best linebacker.
Georgia’s Lorenzo Carter (left, above picture) and Roquan Smith (on the right) are joined by Alabama’s Rashaan Evans and Shaun Dion Hamilton and Kentucky’s Josh Allen as SEC players among the 15 semifinalists. Interestingly, LSU’s Devin White, the SEC’s leading tackler, was not one of the semifinalists.
Coach Kirby Smart says his team’s success has played into the individual recognition for his players.
