Georgia tops Georgia Southern 4-1 to open baseball season

Georgia rode a virtuoso effort from pitcher Robert Tyler to a 4-1 victory in the Dawgs' season opener against Georgia Southern at Foley Field. Tyler struck out 13 of the 17 Eagles he faced through the first five innings, including at least one K of every slot in the Eagle lineup.

3,422 fans witnessed the big junior from Cordele surrender one hit and one walk in five innings before leaving staked to a 2-0 lead. Senior first baseman Daniel Nichols then jacked a two run homer in the sixth to run the score to 4-0. The visitors from Statesboro were able to get on the board on a wild pitch in the seventh but never put another man across home plate.
