Georgia players, Kirby Smart, look forward to first trip to Notre Dame

ATHENS, Ga.— It is hard to believe that Georgia and Notre Dame have only met once in their combined histories. That meeting came in the 1981 Sugar Bowl, a 17-10 UGA victory which allowed the Bulldogs to capture the national title.

This Saturday night will be the first time that the Bulldogs will have stepped foot inside Notre Dame Stadium, the setting for many of college football’s most memorable games.

“My memories of Notre Dame are more Rocket Ismail, Tim Brown, around that time,” Smart said. “I was really too young to remember the (1980) national championship game and I was not actually in the state of Georgia yet.
