Georgia names indoor facility after ex-Augusta National Chairman Billy Payne

Georgia will now practice inside the William Porter Payne Indoor Athletic Facility when the Dawgs feel the need to get out of the elements. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the name was approved by the Georgia Board of Regents. An official announcement is expected soon.

It is unknown if – or more likely how much money – Payne donated towards being the namesake for the facility. The naming comes two years after construction got underway.

Payne was once the chairman of the Augusta National Golf Club. He has recently retired from that position.
