Tim Kimbrough is leaving the Georgia football team and plans to transfer, according to the inside linebacker's father.

Tim Kimbrough Sr. told the Athens Banner-Herald on Wednesday that the decision was made in his son's "best interests."

"He didn't get into trouble or nothing like that. It's just in our best interests," the elder Kimbrough told the newspaper. "We're from Indiana, and it's kind of hard. I can't do everything 600 miles away and get information like I'm supposed to. He just was very unhappy."

Kimbrough was not at Georgia practice Wednesday, and coach Kirby Smart told reporters that the player was "a little leave of absence right now.
