Kirby Smart, Richt’s successor, seems likely to be faced with the same scenario: He has a five-star quarterback who is an early enrollee and an offense begging for a viable threat in the passing game.
But Smart may have to do things a bit different than Richt. Greene and Murray were redshirt freshmen when they started, and Stafford didn’t become the starter until Game 3 of his true freshman season. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Jacob Eason takes the first snap for Smart against North Carolina in the September 3 season opener in Atlanta.
The Bulldogs have finished ninth (in 2014) and 10th (2015) in the SEC in pass offense the past two seasons, with 38 total TD passes.
