ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia returns four starters in the secondary, but a newcomer could end up making a meaningful contribution in 2017. But it may not be who you think.
Two true freshmen — five-star prospect Richard LeCounte III and four-star signee Deangelo Gibbs — have received a bunch of preseason attention and both are going to play this fall. But Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart mentioned J.R. Reed, who sat out last season after transferring from Tulsa, as a potential starter Tuesday.
“He was one of the surprises of the spring,” Smart said. “I would reserve judgment right now because he’s only got two days’ body of work.
