Benjamin Watson was a first-round draft pick four years before John Lilly arrived at Georgia, so the Bulldogs assistant never coached him.
Lilly does talk up the 12-year NFL veteran’s success to recruits when selling the school’s tight end tradition.
Watson is becoming known for much more than making catches.
He’s written a new book, “Under Our Skin,” with Ken Petersen that tackles race relations in the country.
“Once we get into recruiting and the offseason a little bit, I hope I get a chance to read it,” Lilly said.
The book came about after Watson wrote a thought-provoking post on Facebook after the grand jury decision in Ferguson, Mo.
