Ex-MLB first-round pick with Georgia ties heading to walk on at Arizona as QB

Donavan Tate is a 26-year-old former first-round pick of Major League Baseball’s San Diego Padres. The Arizona Star reports he is heading to Arizona as a walk-on quarterback.

Tate is the son of former Georgia running back, Lars Tate. He played his high school ball at Cartersville (Ga.) High.

It is unclear if Georgia tried to gauge his interest in joining its program. The Bulldogs currently only have two scholarship quarterbacks on campus in Jacob Eason and Jake Fromm.

Georgia lost redshirt senior Brice Ramsey to a graduate transfer. Walk-on quarterback Sam Vaughn served as the third quarterback during the spring.
