Seventeen months after suffering a spinal cord injury during a game at Georgia, former Southern University football player Devon Gales is making remarkable progress.
“I’m able to sit up on my own, without having so much help,” Gales said on my radio show Monday. At the time of his injury, Gales was paralyzed from the neck down. “I’m able to move in certain ways. I can move my hips a lot more. I can keep my balance.
“I’ve been progressing a lot.”
Gales has been treated at Shepherd Center in Atlanta—widely considered one of the leading spinal cord rehabilitation centers in the world—since suffering the injury in September 2015.
