When the College Football Playoff selection committee unveils its first rankings of the season Tuesday night, a SEC team surely will be atop their list.
But which one?
Based on what we have seen from the committee during the first three years of the playoff era, a case can be made for Alabama or Georgia at No. 1.
No team looks better than Alabama (8-0 overall, 5-0 in the SEC) right now. But Georgia (8-0, 5-0) has one of the most impressive wins of the season. The Bulldogs’ one-point victory at Notre Dame on September 9 continues to look better each week.
