Georgia Bulldogs running back Keith Marshall will not return for the 2016 season, opting to graduate rather than take a fifth year of NCAA eligibility. He will now take part in UGA's Senior Day activities before the team's home game against Georgia Southern this week.
“[Marshall's] going to be graduating,” Richt said in a press conference on Wednesday. “He just wants to go ahead and move on and take his shot at the NFL when this season is over. He wants to finish strong like the rest of the seniors, but he’ll be in the ceremony.”
Marshall has been hampered by injuries for his entire career, including a serious knee injury he suffered against Tennessee back in 2013. His best season came as a freshman splitting time with Todd Gurley back in 2012. Marshall rushed for 759 yards in that campaign while Gurley led the team with 1,385.
However, Marshall has rushed for just 525 yards on 117 carries since his banner 2012 campaign. Those 117 carries match the amount of touches he had on the ground during his freshman season alone.
The senior halfback has accumulated 255 yards and three touchdowns this season, including 60 yards in UGA's win over Kentucky a couple weeks back. He missed this past week's win over Auburn due to knee and ankle issues.
