The Georgia Bulldogs turned the first-ever Early Signing Period into a banner one for the program, securing the No. 1 overall recruiting class in the country.
Five-star quarterback Justin Fields is the headliner of the class, yet many wonder how soon he'll see the field for the Bulldogs. It's the third-straight year in which Georgia has received a commitment from a five-star quarterback, as Jacob Eason was the No. 2 QB recruit in the country in the 2016 class, while current starter Jake Fromm was the No. 3-ranked quarterback in 2017.
However, head coach Kirby Smart said that Fields will get the chance to compete for the starting job.
"The first thing I would say is the confidence in himself. Justin is a unique football player," Smart said on ESPN. "First of all, he is a great student, he's a great athlete, he's an intelligent player. He has great instincts, he can run the ball, he can throw the ball."
"I think he has confidence in himself and knows he can come in here and compete. He has seen others. If you said, 'who in the country is willing to play a freshman quarterback?' I think we can step up to the plate better than anybody. I think he knows the competition is going to be honest and straightforward. He wants to play with other good players. And I respect that."

Fields had originally committed to Penn State in December but decommitted in June and took six visits to Georgia before committing in October and signing this week.
The 6-foot-3, 221-pounder is ranked as the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback and No. 2 overall prospect in the country, according to the 247sports Composite.
