The NCAA ruled that Georgia running back Todd Gurley will have to sit out of the Bulldogs next two games for accepting over $3,000 in cash from two different people for signing memorabilia.
The ruling also states that Gurley must complete 40 hours of community service and repay a portion of the money he received to a charity of his choice to be reinstated.
Georgia announced Wednesday that they will appeal the ruling.
In its release, the NCAA said that Gurley admitted to breaking NCAA rules and that the punishment "is consistent with precedent in similar cases. Additional withholding was strongly considered because the violations occurred over multiple years with multiple individuals and the student received extensive rules education about the prohibition of receiving payment for autographs."
Gurley has already missed the Bulldogs last two games (victories over Missouri and Arkansas), and will miss Georgia's matchups with Florida and Kentucky. He'll be eligible to return for the November 15 game against Auburn.
Freshman running back Nick Chubb has rushed for 345 yards and three touchdowns while replacing Gurley in the starting lineup.
