The Florida Gators turned in a stellar performance to knock off #11 Georgia, and potentially save Will Muschamp's job in the process. The Gators reeled off 31 unanswered points at one stretch and looked inspired in the upset victory. Georgia made the score look closer than it was with two late touchdowns, but the Bulldogs were outplayed in the final three quarters.
Turning Point: Down by 17, Georgia looked to be getting back into the game after Nick Chubb broke off a 43 yard run into Florida territory. Chubb was stripped from behind at the end of the run however, with the Gators gaining possession of the ball.
That was the last true chance for Georgia to get back into the game, as Florida scored a touchdown minutes later, putting the Bulldogs down by 24 points in the fourth and sealing any chance of a comeback.
Key Stat: The Gators had just 27 yards through the air. Freshman quarterback Treon Harris attempted just six passes - only one of which came after halftime - as Florida elected to keep it on the ground. Kelvin Taylor (197 yards) and Matt Jones (192) both outrushed Georgia (147).
Georgia MVP: Nick Chubb - 21 carries, 156 yards rushing, 59 yards receiving, two total scores
Chubb is doing his best impression of Todd Gurley, as he continues to fill in for the suspended running back. Although he had a fumble in this game, he now has three straight 100 yard games since taking over the backfield and looks more than capable of being the feature back in this offense.
Florida MVP: Kelvin Taylor/Matt Jones -combined 389 yards rushing, four touchdowns
The Gators emphasized the run game, giving Taylor and Jones 25 carries. They did not disappoint, as both backs came up just yards shy of a 200 yard day. They both broke off long touchdown runs as part of a four touchdown total.
What's Next?
Georgia will look to rebound as they travel to Kentucky to take on the Wildcats, while Florida plays at Vanderbilt - a game that coach Muschamp will certainly be coaching.
