The Georgia Bulldogs are ranked in the top ten after a 10-win campaign in 2014, and with a majority of their starters returning, all signs point to a successful run in 2015.
Could they make a run all the way to the College Football Playoff? We think so - if fact, we'll take it a step further. Here are four reasons why Georgia is guaranteed to make the playoff this season:
4) Mark Richt
Richt is one of the elder statesmen of the SEC, leading Georgia to a stunning 136-48 record since taking over the Bulldogs in 2001. They've won 10 or more games in three of the last four seasons, and they show no signs of slowing down with the abundance of talent on the roster this year.
3) Battle-tested
Georgia appears to have three cupcakes on their out-of-conference schedule, but its non-power slate is actually a touch more difficult than most teams in the SEC. The clincher here is a brutal road game against a Georgia Tech team that could be a dark-horse contender for a College Football Playoff berth after finishing last season ranked #8 in the final AP Poll.
The Bulldogs do luck out by getting Alabama and Missouri at home, but trips to Knoxville and Auburn will be huge, perhaps season-defining tests. If they can win those games - as expected, Georgia will be a dangerous team full of confidence.
2) Weak SEC East
Missouri's sealed the division two years for two years running. That's easy with Tennessee stuck in a never-ending string of underachievement and South Carolina continuing to paper over what has been a dreadful defense with iffy recruits. There's no breakaway threat to run the table in the division, except for the Dawgs.
1) Nick Chubb's greatness
Chubb was absolutely dynamite once he saw the field after All-American Todd Gurley’s suspension. In fact, he was so good that he got the starting nod over Gurley once Gurley got back. Chubb will be the full-time, featured back for the Bulldogs next year, and he’s going to get a very heavy workload as Georgia tries to break in a new quarterback. The opportunities will be there, and if he can produce like he did this year, he’ll be a finalist in New York.
