WASHINGTON - Georgetown opened a 19-point lead early in the second half, saw it shrink to six points with two minutes left, but senior guard D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central/Oak Hill) scored the team’s final 12 points as the Hoyas beat Marquette, 80-70, at Verizon Center Saturday afternoon.
It was the third-straight win for the Hoyas, who improve to 9-5 overall and 2-0 in the BIG EAST Conference, while Marquette falls to 10-4 overall and 0-2 in league play.
Freshman forward Marcus Derrickson (Bowie, Md./Brewster Academy [N.H.]) scored a career-high 16 points and had five rebounds, while sophomore forward Isaac Copeland (Raleigh, N.
