Georgetown Rallies, but Falls Short in 55-50 loss to No. 6/7 Villanova

WASHINGTON - Georgetown trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half but used a late run to pull within three points with a minute left, but could not get any closer as No. 6/7 Villanova held on for a 55-50 win over the Hoyas at Verizon Center Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops Georgetown’s record to 11-7 overall and 4-2 in the BIG EAST Conference, while Villanova improves to 16-2 overall and 6-0 in league play.

Senior guard D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central/Oak Hill) scored 15 points and had four steals to lead Georgetown, while sophomore forward Isaac Copeland (Raleigh, N.
