WASHINGTON -- Georgetown University officially dedicates the John R. Thompson Jr. Intercollegiate Athletic Center during ceremonies on the Hilltop on Thursday, October 6. The facility is named for the Hall of Fame men's basketball coach who led the Hoyas to the 1984 NCAA Championship and 596 wins in 27 years on the sidelines.
Construction of the John R. Thompson Jr. Intercollegiate Athletic Center began in October 2014. The two-year project included bulk excavation, underground utilities and foundations preparation, as well as street reconfiguration. Construction was substantially complete on August 13, 2016.
The Thompson Center will transform the athletics experience at Georgetown with a facility that supports the demands our student-athletes face on a daily basis.
