A couple of Hoyas news nuggets on this Casual Wednesday:
From the Washington Post:
John Thompson, Jr.
Big John is Big John. His face is synonymous with a glorious era of D.C. basketball and his cultural influence as head coach of the Georgetown Hoyas is undeniable and — to a degree — unmatched. It sounds like a joke, but there are people who legitimately believed that Georgetown was a historically black college, because of the opportunities Thompson gave to young black men at the esteemed Jesuit school. For a certain generation, he was basically the pinnacle of African-American empowerment in athletics, which is precisely what would make him appropriate for the restaurant that stayed open to both police and protestors during the riots that destroyed the city in 1968.
