WASHINGTON - Georgetown University football freshman wide receiver Michael Dereus (Hyde Park, Mass./Williston Northampton) has been named the Corvias Patriot League Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Additionally, senior placekicker Henry Darmstadter (Alexandria, Va./George Mason) earned an honorable mention selection.
Dereus averaged 59.0 yards on two kickoff returns in Georgetown’s 21-20 setback to Holy Cross on Saturday. He returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown to tie the score, 7-7, after the Crusaders had taken an early lead. It was GU’s first kickoff return for a touchdown since Jeremy Moore (’12) against Yale in 2010.
