OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI
Driving south Thursday morning on I-55 into Mississippi, I was on the lookout for a certain flag.
You know the one. It contains navy blue bars adorned with white stars, forming an X, set against a red field.
The Confederate battle flag, and its place in 21st century thinking, has been a hot topic since June when some wingnut killed nine African-Americans in a Charleston, S.C., church shooting. The alleged gunman was later seen in photos posing with a Rebel flag – and burning an American one.
What does this have to do with Mississippi?
