For Chason Virgil, his first real test came in his second career game. This was at Ole Miss in his true freshman season, 2015. The Fresno State quarterback came off the bench in the second quarter of what would become a wrong-way rout and hit his first eight passes, including one for a touchdown.
He ran the ball twice for 16 yards. He had command of the offense.
Virgil ended up 12 of 18 for 140 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. On third downs, he was 5 of 5, four of those passes resulting in a first down.
