From the archives, Rick Stockstill takes us back to the years when Bobby Bowden's coaching and ability to motivate vaulted a young Florida State program into the limelight. The Noles had had success before, notably in 1964 under Bill Peterson. But beating a string of Top Ten opponents on the road proved that FSU was no one-hit wonder. And that a shocking win over Nebraska on the Cornhuskers home field was no fluke. There would be more great moments to come, but what happened in 1980 and '81 was a kind of coming of age for a program and its fans.
