The Atlantic Coast Conference has well-established roots in North Carolina; ultimately, those ties were enough to keep the league from moving its headquarters out of the Tar Heel State.
Instead, the conference will move about 90 miles south from Greensboro to Charlotte after the league’s Board of Directors unanimously approved the move Tuesday.
“This is a significant day for the ACC and its membership,” commissioner Jim Phillips said Tuesday. “This decision is focused on the future of the ACC and what’s best to position the ACC for long-term success.”
Greensboro has been the home of the ACC since its inception in 1953, but the league began exploring relocation options last July.
