Late home run lifts FSU to 3-2 victory over College of Charleston

TALLAHASSEE — The stage was set perfectly for FSU first baseman Quincy Nieporte to take his shot at redemption.

Having previously hit into two inning-ending double plays, the often sporadic slugger was due as he returned to the plate in the bottom of the eighth inning in a tied ballgame.

Nieporte sized up a ball that lingered in the middle of the plate and blasted a solo shot over the left-field wall for what proved to be the game-winning run as FSU (43-19) defeated College of Charleston (44-14) 3-2 Saturday at Dick Howser Stadium.

"Late in the game is where we've thrived all year long," Nieporte said.
