It’s beyond difficult to put into words what Florida State forward Phil Cofer has been through recently. A redshirt-senior leader of the Seminoles, Cofer sat out FSU’s opening-round NCAA Tournament win over Vermont, and right after the game he learned that his father, Michael, had passed on after battling a long-term illness.
Michael Cofer played college football at Tennessee prior to a Pro-Bowl career with the Detroit Lions from 1983-1993. He succumbed to amyloidosis on March 21. He was just 58 years old.
Phil, who will not play against Gonzaga in Florida State’s Sweet Sixteen matchup, has launched a Go Fund Me account to help out with his family’s medical and funeral expenses.
