When Dabo Swinney took over as interim coach at Clemson in 2008, one of the people who reached out to show him support was an unlikely ally.
Swinney had replaced Tommy Bowden after six games that season and shortly after being promoted, he received a phone call from legendary Florida State coach Bobby Bowden, Tommy’s father.
“He called me to let me know that I had the Bowden’s full support,” Swinney recalled Thursday. “And then three weeks later he smashed me down there in Tallahassee.”
Swinney reflected on his friendship with Bowden, whose family revealed the 91-year-old is facing a terminal medical condition.
