FSU softball (56-9) got sweet revenge against Oklahoma State (46-15) in the WCWS opening game with an 8-0 run-rule victory (six innings) early Friday morning.
The win was the first time FSU softball won their opening WCWS game and avenged two previous losses to the Cowgirls earlier this season.
Kathryn Sandercock went five scoreless innings, with four strikeouts and two walks, allowing only four hits. Coach Lonni Alameda’s strategy to save Sandercock’s arm by using multiple pitchers throughout the season paid dividends. Sandercock consistently touched 70 mph and had pinpoint control most of the night.
I said in the game preview FSU needed to show patience at the plate because Oklahoma State pitchers would issue walks.
