FSU coach Jimbo Fisher's past helped him become an elite quarterback whisperer

TALLAHASSEE — Joey Gatewood was sweating already, just a few minutes into the second half of a long day during FSU's summer football camp. His arm was sore from throwing so much the previous afternoon and his mind was full of the endless instructions he had received from coach Jimbo Fisher.

"I'm going to throw my arm out," said Gatewood, a raw but talented sophomore at St. Johns Bartram Trail High.

Fisher watched Gatewood closely. Dozens of other quarterbacks attended Fisher's camp, and the coach tried to spend time with all of them, but the 49-year-old kept coming back to Gatewood, one of FSU's top priorities for the 2018 recruiting cycle.
