For the last four decades when the FSU baseball team has taken the field of play each and every game, they have been led by a man who has blessed garnet and gold from his days as a player and an assistant coach before taking over as the head coach starting with the 1980 season – and now, it’s all over for Mike Martin and the Seminoles.
After 40 seasons – and more importantly, an amazing 2,029 wins over that span – Martin has hung up his famous No. 11 jersey. But before he left for the final time after this season’s College World Series loss, he added plenty of additional memories to a resume that can be matched by almost no one in the world of college baseball.
