Florida State University reported a gain of more than $7 million in athletics during the pandemic, in part because of cost-cutting measures the department instituted in 2020.
The department listed its total operating revenue as $129.7 million while operating expenses were $121.9 million, resulting in a $7.81 million gain according to the most recent annual NCAA financial report obtained by the Orlando Sentinel through a public records request.
It’s good news for an athletic department that reported a $26 million loss in the 2019-20 fiscal year, much of which came from $19 million-plus spent on former football coach Willie Taggart’s contract buyout.
