After trying to go back and forth between Seattle and Tallahassee during the last couple of months to be with her 81-year-old mom, who has ovarian cancer, Semrau decided to take a leave of absence for the coming season to spend time with her family.
“I was starting to consider it in April and May. I was waiting for the COVID to get better and it could be different,” Semrau said during a call Thursday. “I realized with the players coming back I was needing to be present as a head coach. That’s when the decision became more obvious to me.
