This isn’t exactly what Deshawn Troutman thought would come of his junior year spring break. No one did.
Schools nationwide shut their doors in mid-March due to the spread of the coronavirus. They will not return anytime soon, either, after a statewide edict from Gov. Ron DeSantis. But Troutman, a junior linebacker on the Orlando Edgewater High football team, has made the most of his time during the COVID-19 shutdown.
The pandemic caused for a shortage of workers at his uncle’s business near Palatka, 20 miles west of St. Augustine, and Troutman was asked to help. He gladly obliged, and while many people have lost jobs during this unprecedented national work stoppage, Troutman is one of few who has no shortage of work.
