GAINESVILLE — In the wake of a pair of beatdowns by the archrival Florida Gators, the FSU Seminoles tried to keep perspective.
The Seminoles were going home, yet few expected them to have reached this point in the first place — two wins shy of the College World Series.
"Deep down," longtime FSU coach Mike Martin said, "it was a very good year."
The Seminoles entered the best-of-three series on a seven-game winning streak that included a surprising ACC Tournament title.
FSU ended the season with its worst two-game stretch of the season, losing by a combined score of 24-9.
