Defensive tackle Derick Hunter commits to Florida State

Four-star defensive tackle Derick Hunter has committed to Florida State University, he announced Wednesday on a visit.

Out of Ft. Myers (Fla.) Dunbar High School, Hunter has grown a lot in recent years, and now checks in at 6’4 and 276 pounds. He was formerly a tight end and defensive end prospect, but has continued to grow.

For his size, Hunter has good athleticism. But he has also yet to put it together on the field, and needs a lot of development in terms of technique, consistency, and toughness. The hope is that he will gain those attributes as he further grows into his body and becomes more accustomed to the position, but he is the definition of a low floor, high ceiling prospect.
