While the trajectory had continued to go up during Jimbo Fisher’s start in Tallahassee, there were lingering feelings of unease. There was a clear pattern of the program playing down to competition and often losing. The Seminoles had lost five ACC games as double-digit favorites in Jimbo’s first three years as head coach. Those losses replayed in the minds of Seminole fans as the team needed a first-half Hail Mary to spark themselves to life vs. Boston College. While FSU escaped Boston with a win, many fans wondered when the team would eventually lay that egg.
The program, outside of making Urban Meyer quit in 2010, lacked a true signature win since Fisher had become a head coach.
