SUNRISE (CBSMiami/AP) — A promotion for Florida Panther fans for Thursday night’s game against the New Jersey Devils ended up costing the cats a couple of power plays.
Before the game, the Panther’s management gave away 10,000 toy rats to fans, a move which backfired on the team.
During the game, the Panthers were penalized twice in the third period because fans were throwing the rats onto the ice despite warnings not to do so. New Jersey didn’t score on either resulting power play, but that wasn’t enough to keep Panthers star Jaromir Jagr from saying after the game that he wasn’t pleased with the situation.
