SUNRISE (CBSMiami) – It had been a few days since the Florida Panthers had made any moves, so clearly something had to be done about that.
On Wednesday the Panthers announced that they had signed center Derek MacKenzie to a two-year contract extension.
“Derek is a leader on our team and a true professional,” said Panthers General Manager Tom Rowe. “His experience, work ethic and character make him a respected presence on the ice and throughout our organization.”
MacKenzie, 35, had one year left on the initial three-year deal he had signed with Florida and now is set to remain with the team through the 2018-19 season.
