SUNRISE (CBSMiami/AP) – The Florida Panthers were expected to go after high-scoring wingers this offseason and didn’t wait for the start of free agency to do so.
Florida acquired Mike Hoffman on Tuesday, adding a skilled winger to their forward top-6.
The 28-year-old Hoffman was actually traded twice in the span of a few hours.
The Ottawa Senators first traded Hoffman, hoping to solve an ugly off-ice issue involving star defenseman Erik Karlsson and his wife.
The Senators sent Hoffman to the San Jose Sharks, who then flipped him to the Panthers.
All told, the two transactions involved four players and six draft picks.
