SUNRISE, Fla. – Florida Panthers defenseman Michael Matheson will represent Team Canada at the 2016 IIHF World Men’s Ice Hockey Championship in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia from May 6-22.
The 22-year old Matheson played in three games in the regular season with Florida and recorded one assist in five Stanley Cup playoff games. The 6-foot-2, 192-pound native of Pointe-Claire, Quebec recorded 20 points (8-12-20) in 54 games with the Portland Pirates (AHL) this season and recorded one assist in three Calder Cup playoff games.
Matheson was originally selected by Florida in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft.
